Tanks and other military equipment will be displayed in Washington during Thursday’s Fourth of July celebrations, US President Donald Trump confirmed Monday.
Trump, who plans to speak during the festivities from the Lincoln Memorial, said Sherman and Abrams tanks would be placed “in certain areas” to show them off.
“We have some incredible equipment – military equipment on display — brand new,” Trump said, speaking at the White House.
There also will be a flyover by the US Navy Blue Angels flight performance team.
Trump is scheduled to speak at 6:30 pm (2230 GMT) in the event which the White House is calling a “Salute to America.”
“We’re gonna have a great Fourth of July in Washington DC. It’ll be like no other. It’ll be special and I hope follow a lot of people come and it’s going to be about this country and it’s a salute to America,” he said.
The annual televised show “A Capitol Fourth” is set to take place at the other end of the National Mall in front of the Capitol Building followed by a fireworks display.
The parade early in the day will feature marching bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military units, giant balloons, equestrian and drill teams, the US Interior Department said.
Trump has been criticized for politicizing the annual Fourth of July celebration in Washington, and the event is expected to be accompanied by protests.
