A 45-minute gunfight broke-out between Philippine government troops and around forty members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Barangay Daganas, Bulan town in Sorsogon province last Thursday, according to Philippine Army reports.
Tipped off by local residents, joint elements of Philippine military’s 22nd Infantry Battalion (22IB) and 31st Infantry Battalion (31IB) encountered at least forty Communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) of the Bicol Regional Party Committee (BRPC), who fall under the command of Arnel “Mando” Estiller.
A female CTG member was mortally wounded during the firefight, and was subsequently left behind by her comrades as government forces overran the position.

Several weapons were captured following the assault, including a Vietnam-era M-60 machine gun, M-16 rifle, an anti-personnel mine, and IED-making materials.
Joint Task Force Bicolandia (JTFB) commander Major General Henry A. Robinson extended his gratitude towards the locals who tipped off the government troops.
“The encounter was another success for the military and the Bicolano people,” he said in a release provided by the Southern Luzon Command. “Your continuous support even by way of simple sharing of information about the presence of the terrorists, contributes a lot in our fight against insurgency. Our fight against this terrorist group will soon be over, as the enemy armed elements are now on continuous declining strength.”
