Iraq’s defense minister Khaled Al Obaidi visited Ubaydah Bin Al Jarrah Air Base, a former MiG base in the eastern part of the country. A photo of the media event revealed a Chinese-made CH-4 drone — Beijing’s answer to America’s Predator — in the background, wearing Iraqi colors.

The CH-4 is clearly armed with a small anti-tank missile.

Since Iraq lacks access to a global satellite communication system, its drone operators probably use line-of-sight radio to steer the CH-4s and download video.

China’s drones are selling like crazy in countries that, for cost or diplomatic reasons, don’t have access to the latest U.S.- or Israeli-made unmanned aerial vehicles. Nigeria recently bought armed CH-3 drones from China and sent them into action against Boko Haram militants.
