He can’t keep getting away with it.

From mass shootings to acts of terror and suspicious destructions of critical bridges in faraway lands, comedian Sam Hyde seems to have more reach than most comic book supervillains- at least if you ask media outlets.

In what has become a litmus test for the credibility of media in recent years, the “Hyde effect” often shows how quickly journalists will jump to get a story out before checking to see if the facts line up with the narrative.

Hyde struck again in relation to the Crimea bridge incident, which left the massive water-crossing transportation route destroyed.

At least, that’s what Euro Weekly implied.

Plastering a photoshopped Ukrainian passport image of “Semen Hydenko”  on the front page of the story, Euro Weekly, Hyde once again became the face of the war in Ukraine.

The article, titled “UPDATE: How and who was responsible [sic] for blowing up the Crimea bridge?“ and written by Peter McLaren-Kennedy, paid as little attention to the typo in the title as it did to the alleged culprit.

The image of “Hydenko” came from Twitter, and has made its round on more than one media outlet.

Previously, Hyde’s face was featured as the “Ghost of Kyiv,” a fictional hero that was once thought to be real- only for Ukrainian Defense officials to backtrack and state that the “Ghost” was simply a symbol of their remaining fighter pilots.

McLaren-Kennedy would later claim that adding Hyde was a joke- though given the glaring typos within the article, nothing is truly certain to the discerning eye.

“The question of how and who was responsible for blowing up the bridge into Crimea is a serious one, although apologies are due for adding a little lightheartedness to the original story,” he wrote.
