China ramping up military operations for potential invasion into Taiwan
The Department of Defense claims the Chinese military is gearing up for a potential invasion of Taiwan, amping up options and reforming military doctrine in order to formally take control of the self-governing island.
The new strategies vary from full-scale invasions to naval blockades, though an invasion would admittedly require an increase in troops and amphibious craft.
The People’s Liberation Army’s shift from separate entities to joint combined arms brigades. In addition, the military is developing army aviation and air assault brigades.
While China is a behemoth military, the organization has dialed down on troop numbers in favor of modernization, which includes adopting some western-style military doctrines, such as joint logistics, civil-military integration support, and taking full advantage of battlefield information systems.
According to Defense News, the latest annual China Military Power Report released by the DoD shows the People’s Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps (PLANMC) is being expanded and modernized, which also points to the possibility of amphibious warfare.
