Bombs Away: Best images of our military for May 10th, 2019
This week’s images show us a pair of victories, two types of fires, and a first-person view of the new F-35A.
For 13 years the Army has given away the Lt. Gen. Robert B. Flowers trophy to the best Sapper, and in this photo by Micahel Curtis, we watch two of the competitors jump feet first into the water. This year’s competition was held at Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area in Missouri and the winners were from the 39th Brigade Engineer Battalion from Fort Campbell Kentucky.
A team of Marines celebrated their victory in the 45th Annual Naha Dragon Boat Race in Okinawa Japan. The competition was open to both civilians and the military. The race is famously known as the “Haarii.”
In Colorado, Air National Guardsmen from western camps train for the upcoming wildfire season. The photo shows the 152nd Airlift Wing from Nevada dropping water during a Fire Fighting System training. Three Air National Guard teams are at Peterson Air Force Base for the exercise.
A different type of fire at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station as another SpaceX Falcon 9 lifted off. The rocket sent off a cargo ship carrying more than 5,000 pounds of supplies destined for the International Space Station.
And the U.S. Air Force gave a sneak peek of the new F-35A in a trailer featuring Capt. Andrew “Dojo” Olson flying the plane.
